This week kicked off with water quality monitoring at Anderson creek. Water levels are still very low and flows are disconnected from the estuary.
Our juvenile salmon survey revealed salmon were still present at Irvines Landing. If you look closely at the photograph, you can see motile scars from sea lice on the body. Other species identified included striped surfperch, cabezon and a unique six gonad moon jelly. We were joined by one of our youngest volunteers who was very enthusiastic about fishing!
We continued to collect eDNA samples for European green crab at Irvines Landing and conducted a foot trapping survey at Bargain Narrows. We identified many graceful crabs, one red rock and a few hairy shore crabs, but thankfully no EGC.
We wrapped up the week with a rocky intertidal survey at Irvines Landing where we discovered for the first time mudflat snails, an introduced species. Mudflat snails are prevalent throughout the Harbour but it is the first time they have been found at our survey area at Irvines Landing.

This weekend is the kick off of our annual bioblitz on iNaturalist. We will have displays, art tables and food in the tranquility garden from 1-3. There are two projects occurring. One community project and one junior scientist challenge designed for youth (18 and under). Check out our website for more details and links to the projects. There are great prizes to be won!
