Website & Content Specialist

Employment Type: Youth Internship, Madeira Park, BC (Hybrid)  

Terms of Employment: Full-time, 30 hrs/week, 6 month term with possible extension, dependent on funding.

Dates of Internship: Starting May 21, 2024 (flexible) through November 30, 2024

Wage: $28.00 per hour

Position Description: Collaboratively develop and implement strategies to enhance our digital content reach and effectiveness, aligning with the Loon Foundation’s goals. 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

(1) Website Strategy: Develop and implement strategies to enhance the website’s reach and effectiveness, aligning with our organization’s goals. 

(2) Website Management: Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of the website’s architecture to ensure it is secure, fast, and reliable. 

(3) Technical Oversight: Manage daily technical operations, including hosting, software maintenance, and troubleshooting technical issues. 

(4) Feature Deployment: Manage the deployment of new website features and ensure the integration of new technologies that enhance user experience and functionality.

(5) Content Strategy: Work with other Loon Foundation team members to develop and implement a content strategy that aligns with our organization’s goals. 

(6) Content Management: Collaborate with other team members to create, publish, and update compelling and informative content that educates the public and promotes our initiatives. 

(7) Search Engine Optimization: Ensure all website content is up-to-date, relevant, and optimized for search engines and user engagement. 

(8) Analytics: Use web analytics tools to monitor, analyze, and report on website traffic and user engagement metrics. 

(9) Digital Marketing: Work closely with the marketing team to integrate digital marketing strategies such as email campaigns, social media promotion, and online fundraising campaigns. 

(10) Fundraising: Optimize the website for conversions and donor engagement, enhancing the fundraising capabilities of the organization. 

(11) Accessibility: Ensure the website is user-friendly and accessible to all audiences, including those with disabilities. 

(12) User Experience & Responsive Design: Regularly conduct usability testing and gather feedback to continually improve the site’s design and functionality; Implement responsive design to ensure the website is effectively accessible on various devices. 

(13) Collaboration: Coordinate with other team members, including Education Coordinator, Volunteer and Membership Coordinator, Media and Communications Director, and Finance and Operations Manager, to align the website’s features and content with each department’s objectives and enhance overall organizational effectiveness. 

(14) Community Engagement & Interactive Learning: Use the web platform to promote community education programs, volunteer opportunities, and advocacy initiatives; Ensure that the digital tools and platforms support interactive learning and community engagement, such as webinars, blogs, and forums.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Post-secondary graduate

  • Between the ages of 15-30 (inclusive) at the start of the internship

  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada*

  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations

Volunteer & Membership Coordinator

Employment Type: Youth Internship, Madeira Park, BC (Hybrid)

Terms of Employment: Full-time, 30 hrs/week, 8 month term. Hours of work include occasional evenings and weekends.

Dates of Internship: Starting May 21, 2024 (flexible) through January 31, 2025

Wage: $28.00 per hour

Position Description: The Volunteer and Membership Coordinator will contribute to building and supporting the Loon Foundation’s community of members and volunteers.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

(1) Volunteer Recruitment: Develop and implement strategies for recruiting volunteers, targeting diverse populations to ensure a wide range of skills and backgrounds and promote equity, diversity, and inclusion.

(2) Membership Management: Develop and implement strategies to increase membership enrollment, retention, and satisfaction, including outreach, recruitment, and provision of benefits and services to ensure a satisfying and engaging member experience.

(3) Volunteer Training: Organize and manage volunteer training sessions to equip volunteers with the necessary knowledge and skills to support our organization’s diverse needs.

(4) Volunteer Management: Maintain a database of volunteer information, availability, and skills to match volunteers to appropriate roles and responsibilities, and schedule, coordinate, and oversee volunteer activities to ensure effective engagement and a rewarding experience for all participants.

(5) Administration: Maintain comprehensive records of membership applications and renewals and volunteer contributions to ensure an organized and efficient membership system.

(6) Volunteer Recognition: Recognize and celebrate the contributions of members and volunteers, using exclusive events, public acknowledgment, personalized notes, exclusive updates, and discounts on merchandise, events, or programs, to maintain a high level of engagement and satisfaction.

(7) Promotion: Document successful stories of volunteer impact and member contributions and

collaborate with marketing and communications team members to showcase these contributions across various media and social media platforms.

(8) Evaluation: Develop and implement feedback mechanisms to gather insights from volunteers and members about their experiences, and to monitor and analyze membership and volunteer trends to inform strategic decisions and ensure satisfaction and retention.

(9) Reporting: Prepare regular reports on volunteer participation and membership statistics for the LoonFoundation board, staff, and supporters.

(10) Partnership Building: Foster strong relationships with community groups, educational institutions, and other relevant organizations to enhance the Loon Foundation’s visibility and support base.

(11) Outreach: Represent the Loon Foundation at community events, conferences, and public meetings to promote our organization’s goals and projects, solicit support, and expand our network.

(12) Communications: Engage members and volunteers through regular newsletters, updates, and feedback mechanisms to keep them informed and involved in the organization’s activities.

(13) Support: Provide ongoing support to volunteers and members by answering queries, addressing concerns, and offering resources and guidance to enhance their contributions.

(14) Policies and Procedures: Develop membership and volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service, and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations affecting membership and volunteer operations.

PODS Eco-Tourism Strategist

Employment type: Youth Internship, Madeira Park, BC (Hybrid)

Terms of Employment: 30 hrs/wk, 8 month term

Dates of Internship: Starting May 21, 2024 (flexible) through January 31, 2025

Wage: $28.00 per hour

Position Description: The Ecotourism Strategist will work to develop and implement an ecotourism strategy for the Loon Foundation’s Pender Harbour Ocean Discovery Station (PODS).

Duties & Responsibilities: 

(1) Program Development: Design PODS ecotourism offerings that align with the Loon Foundation’s objectives and conservation goals; 

(2) Market Research: Conduct market research to identify latest trends, opportunities, and challenges in the ecotourism sector; 

(3) Partnership Development: Establish strategic, mutually beneficial partnerships with local businesses, accommodation providers, marinas, tourism operators, Indigenous communities, transportation providers, restaurants, business, community, and tourism organizations, to increase affordability, richness, and impact of available ecotourism programming at PODS; 

(4) Sustainability Planning: Develop policies to minimize and monitor ecological footprint of PODS operations and programs; 

(5) EDI Planning: Develop policies to ensure cultural sensitivity, inclusivity, and accessibility so that PODS facilities and ecotourism programs are welcoming and accessible to all; 

(6) Community Engagement: Consult with local stakeholders to ensure that PODS ecotourism activities are sensitive to needs of local communities and benefit residents and local businesses; 

(7) Marketing and Promotion: Contribute to social media platforms and marketing campaigns to raise awareness and build anticipation for the opening of PODS.
