Field Work Friday

It's #FieldworkFriday

This week kicked off with another survey for European green crab (EGC) at Halfmoon Bay Estuary. We are happy to report that we did not find any EGCs this time. While this is happy news, it doesn't mean they are not still there. We will continue surveys at this location next spring and we hope the community will help us keep an eye out for this invasive creature.

On Friday, we observed salmon throughout the lower reaches of Myers Creek, below the confluence with Meadow Creek. Most fish had been predated on. There was even a golden eagle spotted in the estuary. A rare find!

The rains this weekend charged the creeks enough for the salmon to finally enter! Yay! Have you seen them? They are found throughout the channel in Anderson Creek and can be seen from John Daly Park.

We completed another forage fish survey at Baker Beach. We have not identified any spawn yet, but we are very excited for the return of the Pacific sand lance. Typicallywe start to see them in November. We will keep you posted!

A huge thank you to the volunteers who join us to keep these surveys going. We couldn’t do it without you.
