Fieldwork Friday

It's #FieldworkFriday!

We kicked off the week by teaching local students about the different life cycle stages of crabs as well as fun facts about the other invertebrates observed in the light trap. We had an extraordinary number of zoea in the trap this week. Stay tuned to find out what species they are!

Our salmon numbers held steady on Friday and Monday. The fish have gotten a little bigger and can now be seen uniformly around the docks.

We hosted our Volunteer Appreciation event in the Tranquility Garden on Saturday under sunny skies. We were delighted to have so many volunteers come to enjoy s’mores and eat cake with us. We are so grateful for all of the work that is done throughout the year. If you are a volunteer who missed out on the event, please reach out to Jenn to receive your appreciation gift.

We continued monitoring European Green Crabs (EGC) this week, and identified many female red rock crabs and a few sculpins. Luckily no invasive EGC! In addition to trapping at local beaches, we will start collecting water samples for eDNA analysis through Fisheries and Oceans Canada to monitor EGC detections.
