Fieldwork Friday
It is #FieldWorkFriday!
The juvenile salmon numbers continue to increase with 731 chum and 680 pink identified at Irvines Landing and 446 chum and 91 pink at Gerrans Bay! Did you know that in addition to observing fish, we also measure water quality parameters during these surveys? We record water temperature, salinity and recently added secchi disc readings for water clarity.
We are so grateful to the volunteers who come out to help with all aspects of the program including helping pull the nets, counting and measuring salmon and the incredibly important job of recording the data, which can get very confusing with so many fish.
Our European green crab surveys continued this week. We donned our waders and headed out to the Lagoon at John Henry's Marina. We identified Hairy shore crabs, Northern kelp crabs and a Hairy helmet crab but thankfully no EGC. A huge thank you to everyone who helped with the deployment and collection of traps.
