Field Work Friday
It’s #FieldWorkFriday
With it being a short week, we had a reduction in surveys.
This week kicked off with our larval crab and juvenile salmon surveys. We did not see any salmon in our surveys this week but we did have shiner perch and three-spined stickleback.
We observed a baby opalescent squid in our larval crab survey. Look at the way it uses its mantle to move in the water. We are still seeing a few larval Dungeness megalopae at our Irvines Landing site. We collected our weekly eDNA sample for European green crab (EGC).
Our EGC foot trapping surveys did not reveal any EGC but we did find a few northern kelp crab, graceful rock crab and hairy helmet crabs. The hairy helmet crabs are a favourite of staff and volunteers. This one was covered in little barnacles. Time for him to moult!
