Caretaker
Location: 13232 Dames Road, Garden Bay, B.C. (On-site)
Position Type: Part-time, live-in position. 8 hours per week
Compensation: Paid hours (beyond rent-exchange hours) $22–$26 per hour
Position Overview
The Caretaker is responsible for the day-to-day care, maintenance, and oversight of the property. This role ensures the site is safe, well maintained, and operating smoothly for staff, visitors, contractors, and guests. The Caretaker works closely with the Executive Director and designated maintenance personnel to identify issues and support ongoing operations.

Cleaning & Housekeeping: Daily cleaning of common areas, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and cleaning guest units between stays to prepare the space for incoming guests.
Maintenance & Repairs: Fixing leaky faucets, changing light bulbs, simple plumbing/electrical fixes, and coordinating larger repairs with contractors.
Landscaping: Mowing lawns, trimming hedges, clearing snow and ice from walkways.
Security & Safety: Monitoring security systems, ensuring fire extinguishers are working, and responding to breaches.
Tenant/Resident Support: Assisting residents with light tasks, restocking supplies, and providing a friendly presence.
Property Management Support:Reporting issues, keeping records, managing supplies, and acting as the owner's eyes and ears.
Emergency Response: Immediate action for emergencies like water leaks or power outages.

Perform daily, weekly, and seasonal cleaning tasks.
Conduct routine safety and cleanliness walk-throughs.
Address repair requests promptly.
Manage and organize maintenance supplies.
Maintain grounds, including gardening and snow removal.
Communicate effectively with property owners or managers.
Keep flat roof areas and decks free of debris. Keep water drains clear.

Ability to perform light to moderate physical work, including outdoor tasks.
Basic knowledge of property maintenance and safety practices.
Strong communication skills and ability to report issues clearly.
Problem-solving and troubleshooting.
Attention to detail for cleanliness and maintenance.
Reliable, trustworthy, able to work independently and respond to emergencies.
Previous caretaking or property management experience is an asset but not required.

Environmental Education & Stewardship Assistant (Co-op)
Location: In person, ḵalpilin (Pender Harbour), Sunshine Coast, BC
Term: 12 weeks with planned start date of June 1, 2026, (subject to grant funding confirmation)
Hours & Wage: 35-hour work week at $30/hour
Position Overview
The Loon Foundation invites enthusiastic applicants for the position of Environmental Education & Stewardship Assistant to support youth environmental education, community engagement, citizen science, and conservation programming on British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast. The Foundation manages the Ruby Lake Lagoon Nature Reserve, Iris and Billy Griffith Nature Centre, Tranquility Garden, and the EarthFair Shop, and is developing the Pacific Ocean Discovery Station (PODS), a marine research, education, and community hub focused on coastal ecosystems, climate action, and environmental learning. This role involves delivering outdoor education programs, supporting public engagement, and contributing to ecological monitoring and stewardship activities.

Lead and deliver youth summer nature camps at the Nature Reserve, facilitating fun, hands-on outdoor STEM learning focused on local ecosystems and environmental stewardship.
Support school field trips at the Griffith Centre.
Engage visitors at the EarthFair Store and PODS Showroom, sharing information about programs, coastal ecosystems, and sustainability initiatives.
Help plan, coordinate, and deliver community events, including the annual Sunshine Coast BioBlitz, workshops, and special events in the Tranquility Garden.
Assist with ecological monitoring, shoreline clean-ups, and other stewardship initiatives.
Support volunteer coordination and program logistics for education and stewardship activities.
Contribute to the development of educational materials and outreach content.

Current post-secondary student in environmental studies, biology, geography, education, sustainability, or a related field.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and manage programs or events effectively.
Experience delivering youth environmental education or outdoor learning programs.
Knowledge of conservation, biodiversity, climate change adaptation, and sustainability, with an understanding of Pacific coastal ecosystems, habitats, species, and conservation challenges
Interest in Indigenous knowledge systems and collaborative conservation approaches.
Experience supporting or participating in community science, habitat enhancement, or environmental stewardship initiatives is an asset.
Familiarity with green technologies, renewable energy, or sustainability solutions is a plus.

Digital Communications and Marketing Coordinator

Position Overview
The Loon Foundation is seeking creative applicants for the position of Digital Communications and Marketing Coordinator to lead digital storytelling, outreach, and audience engagement across its conservation, environmental monitoring, youth STEM education, and stewardship programs. A key focus of this role is supporting the development of the Pacific Ocean Discovery Station (PODS), a net-zero coastal research and education facility being developed in partnership with shíshálh Nation. The position combines content creation, communications strategy, and digital engagement across social media, websites, video, email communications, and impact reporting.

Develop and implement a digital communications and marketing strategy to build public awareness and support for the Loon Foundation’s programs and PODS
Create digital and print materials, including infographics, graphics, and promotional content
Manage social media channels and content across multiple platforms
Produce short-form video content for digital storytelling and outreach
Write and produce email newsletters for external audiences
Manage and update Loon Foundation and PODS websites, ensuring accuracy and consistency
Develop digital content tailored to different audiences, including visitors, donors, funders, partners, and researchers
Support digital fundraising, donor engagement, and campaign communications for the PODS capital campaign

The candidate must have a post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, media production, graphic design, computer science, information technology, environmental science, or a related field. Ideally, the candidate will have knowledge or experience in some or all of the following:
Graphic design and visual communication, including use of design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva
Social media management and digital content creation
Website content management (e.g., WordPress or similar platforms)
Video production and editing
Email marketing and newsletter platforms
Data visualization and impact reporting

Coastal Waters Monitoring Assistant

Position Overview
The Loon Foundation invites enthusiastic applicants for the position of Coastal Waters Monitoring Assistant to support hands-on ecological monitoring and environmental stewardship. The Assistant will work with the Field Research Supervisor to conduct surveys of Pacific salmon (juvenile and spawning stages), forage fish spawning activity, intertidal invertebrate communities, larval crabs, European green crab, eelgrass beds, coastal waterbirds, pinnipeds, environmental DNA, and freshwater quality. The role also involves processing samples, organizing and managing ecological data, contributing to analysis and reporting, and engaging with volunteers, community members, and partner organizations.

Conduct ecological field monitoring across freshwater and coastal environments
Collect, process, and identify biological and environmental samples
Manage monitoring data and contribute to data analysis, interpretation, and reporting
Support community-based freshwater monitoring programs and community science initiatives
Assist with the coordination and support of volunteers participating in field monitoring activities
Participate in outreach, education, and communications activities, including community events, presentations, and digital content sharing our monitoring results and conservation work
Work collaboratively, both independently and as part of a team of staff, volunteers, and partner organizations

The candidate must have a strong interest in ecology, conservation, and coastal ecosystems. A degree or diploma in biology, environmental science, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
Ideally, the applicant will have knowledge or experience in some or all of the following:
Ecological field methods, including species surveys and habitat assessments
Collection, management, and basic analysis of environmental or scientific data
Technical or scientific writing (e.g., lab reports, course projects, or monitoring summaries)
Use of field tools and technologies such as GPS or GIS
Working outdoors in varied terrain and weather conditions
Supporting volunteers, community programs, or environmental stewardship initiatives
Experience communicating and delivering education or field-based learning activities
Interest in Indigenous knowledge systems and collaborative approaches to conservation
